Bengaluru: December 20, 2021: For the third year in a row, #Unlabel, the flagship talent event of Bengaluru-based NGO ‘Mitra for Life,’ was a huge success. #Unlabel is a unique music and dance event that showcases talented people with autism and other special needs. The event was organised by Mitra for Life with the goal of allowing the young performers to be recognised as artists rather than people with special needs. The event was held at ‘The Finer Side’, an art school on Kanakpura road and was attended by Vidwan Kumaresh, Dr Jayanti Kumaresh, Vidwan N.G Ravi and Dr Meenakshi Ravi among other special guests who encouraged the talented artists.
The event saw performances from Pravallika – a dancer whom Downs Syndrome does not hold back; Devesh, a young Tabla player and Carnatic singer whose music redefines his Autism; Adithya – a multi-talented musician shooting to fame with his playing of five different instruments, and Siddhartha Majumdar – who grooves with his singing of Kishore and Rafi hits.
Speaking on the occasion of the unique concert, Dr Madhuri Vaidyeswar, the founder of ‘Mitra For Life’ said “At ‘Mitra For Life’, we strongly believe in the community coming together. With inclusion and diversity being the talk of the hour, we are extremely happy to present this opportunity and a platform once again to support our talented musicians and dancers with invisible disabilities. We are truly overwhelmed with the wonderful response the event received.” Dr Madhuri founded ‘Mitra For Life’ in 2018, a private non-profit organisation that works for the empowerment of autism and the special needs community in Bengaluru.
#Unlabel 2020 was conducted last year online due to COVID. The initiative was supported by established artists like Badri Prasad, Raghu Dixit, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Karthik Iyer and Giridhar Udupa who expressed their appreciation of all the performers and the uniqueness of the event.
