Chennai: India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has augmented its commitment to social responsibility by constructing a fully equipped 12-classroom building for Government High School Thirukallimedu, Kancheepuram. Education continues to be the most important pillar for Yamaha’s CSR activities in India, the other three pillars being Environment, Healthcare, and Road Safety.
The newly constructed school is by far the largest school that Yamaha has constructed under its CSR Initiative. It comprises 12 fully furnished classrooms, located in a 2-storey building with six classrooms on each floor. The facility also has a kitchen building, dedicated restrooms and a modern computer lab. Further, the school has a 10 KW Solar Power facility, which is more than enough to meet the normal requirements of the school. Rainwater harvesting structures and RCC Water Storage Sump have also been provided, and the entire school facility is secured by 550-m boundary walls.
It is pertinent to note that this is the fourth school building which Yamaha has constructed through its CSR programme in the past four years in Kanchipuram and Tiruvannamalai districts in Tamil Nadu. Yamaha had also set up computer labs in five Government Schools in Kancheepuram district earlier in 2024.
The inaugural function was graced by C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Kancheepuram; M. Mahalakshmi, Mayor, Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation; R. Kumaragurunathan, Deputy Mayor, Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation and other senior State Government officials. From Yamaha, the inauguration was attended by Itaru Otani, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies; Atsushi Nagashima, Director, Yamaha Motor India; and S. Kumar, Vice President, Yamaha Motor India. School students and parents who joined on the day were thrilled at the robust infrastructure. Further, new school bags and stationery kits were also distributed by Yamaha to all the students.
India Yamaha Motor has partnered with Namma School Namma Ooru Palli (NSNOP) – an initiative established by the Government of Tamil Nadu to foster community engagement and support in strengthening basic education for Government Schools in the State.
