Hyderabad: At NMIMS Hyderabad, education goes beyond textbooks; it embodies a holistic approach that extends to societal impact. Through initiatives like ‘Nishchay’, students actively engage in fostering change and contributing meaningfully to society. Nishchay, the student-led Social Responsibility Committee, epitomises our commitment to social service and community development.
Currently, the Committee is headed by Subhraneel Baruah and co-headed by Priyanka Raheja and includes 45 other dedicated students and a junior committee consisting of 24 students. Moreover, the Committee is further divided into multiple verticals like Content, Social Media, Designing, Networking, and Events and tasked with specific responsibilities. This year, the Committee organised and participated in a range of impactful events in its endeavour to community building and contribute towards a vibrant and dynamic campus environment.
The WeCare programme is a unique winter social internship programme started by the School of Business Management (SBM) at SVKM’s NMIMS. The initiative aims to empower first-year students pursuing an MBA at SBM with a three-week social internship. Through the programme, students get immersed in India’s social realities and are encouraged to become changemakers for a sustainable and equitable future. Starting this year, Nishchay took the WeCare internship programme under its wings.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, WeCare places students in diverse settings like NGOs, social enterprises, government departments, and CSR wings of leading corporations where they tackle critical social challenges in areas like education, gender equality, energy conservation, poverty alleviation, skill development and financial inclusion. This hands-on experience promotes their problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills while deepening the student’s understanding of the social landscape.
In the spirit of selfless giving, Nishchay organised a visit to the TOUCH orphanage in Hyderabad in July 2023. The Committee engaged with the kids at the orphanage through games, chocolates, juices, pizzas and gifts. The day unfolded with interactive sessions, games, dancing and singing, creating cherished memories. This experience illuminated the significance of gratitude and the power of collective action.
Commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Nishchay participated in the ‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta: A Step Towards Building a Clean Nation’ initiative by organising a cleanliness and plantation drive.
Nishchay conducted and spearheaded a blood donation drive in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Mahabubnagar. The Hon’ble District Magistrate of Mahabubnagar, Ravi Gugulothu, and Deepa, Project Director at L&T Tollgate, honoured the event. Students from various schools participated in the blood donation drive. The initiative received an overwhelming response with 104 people participating in it.
Taking forward its effort to give back to the community, Nishchay has planned the ‘Joy of Giving Week’, wherein it will conduct a fundraising and collection drive and distribution of essentials among the marginalised communities.
Nishchay Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping the student experience at NMIMS Hyderabad. The committee’s objective is to assist NMIMS students in understanding the critical issues that plague society and to make a difference in the lives of the poor and the underprivileged. Each of the committee’s initiatives contributes to making our society a better place. Nishchay Committee stands as a driving force in enhancing the overall student experience at NMIMS Hyderabad.
