Oberoi Mall Partners with the Save Soil Movement to Highlight Soil Crisis and Increase Green Cover

Mumbai:  On the occasion of World Environment Day, Oberoi Mall has collaborated with the ‘Save Soil’ movement which addresses the global soil crisis and raises awareness about different ways to protect the soil. ‘Save Soil’ is a global movement to address land degradation and advocate for healthy soil. Oberoi Mall conducted a campaign from June 3 to 5, 2022, to educate patrons about the agricultural soil degradation issue and the need for measures to increase green cover across the globe through afforestation.

As part of the campaign, Oberoi Mall has set up a one-of-a-kind globe installation in the mall atrium where the patrons can fill the blank areas of the globe with artificial green grass and show their support in making the earth a greener planet. This unique customer engagement activity will help in spreading awareness about making the world a greener place by planting more trees and addressing the soil degradation issue.

Along with this, the volunteers of the Save Soil movement, will also engage customers with various interactive activities at the Oberoi Mall such as a Flash Mob, Jig Dance, Face Painting, and a photo booth opportunity. They will also hold a quiz related to the environment and winners will be gifted saplings.

Speaking on the initiatives taken by Oberoi Mall on World Environment Day, Sameep Pathak, Chief Executive Officer – Mall, said, “We are committed to continuous efforts towards promoting green initiatives. This year on World Environment Day, we partnered with the Save Soil movement to promote awareness and educate our patrons about the urgent threat of soil degradation, its adverse impact on the environment, and initiatives to preserve planet earth’s health. Through our ongoing green initiatives, we are deeply committed to creating a sustainable and positive impact on society. And we shall continue our efforts towards spearheading the sustainability theme through our unique initiatives in the future as well as to educate and motivate people.”

Over the years, Oberoi Mall has been instrumental in adopting the best sustainable practices in the industry. The Mall has made conscious efforts to reduce water consumption through consistent monitoring, and wastewater treatment and has installed energy-efficient LED lights with sensors to ensure energy conservation. In terms of off-site solar energy use, with its conscious efforts, the Oberoi Mall has conserved on an average 38 per cent of total electricity, over the last three years (2019-20 to 2021-2022). The mall also offers an EV charging facility that further contributes to reducing carbon footprint while enabling consumers to visit the mall in their electric vehicles. Additionally, the mall has extended its sustainability efforts toward the patrons as well by offering them a dedicated area for parking bicycles free of cost. With such initiative, Oberoi Mall continues to raise awareness, by developing high-impact environmental programmes and collaborating with like-minded NGOs to make the world a greener and healthier place.

Oberoi Mall is the only mall in the country to receive the LEED v4.1 O+M Platinum rating awarded by USGBC which is a testament to our dedication to reducing our operational carbon footprint.
