Tata Power and WWF-India Unite People for our Planet on Earth Hour 2024

National: Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, continues to support the World Wide Fund for Nature India (WWF-India) and urges the public to join them for Earth Hour 2024, the biggest hour for Earth. In line with the company’s ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ movement, this association emphasises Tata Power’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.  

Tata Power employees across geographies enthusiastically participated in Earth Hour 2024 by switching off and taking part in on-ground engagements organised by WWF in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. The employees based out of Mumbai engaged in a beach cleanup drive organised at Prabhadevi beach, along with Tata Power’s sustainability champion ‘Globey’ who helped spread the message among the masses. The initiative was actively promoted under Tata Power Climate Crew – Employee Sustainability Champion initiative, which has more than 5000 active champions continuously engaging in conservation initiatives.

The WWF-India spokesperson, said, “Every year, on Earth Hour, people worldwide voluntarily switch off non-essential lights for one hour. It is a movement that has continued to inspire and mobilise people globally, reminding us of our collective responsibility to create a more hopeful and resilient future for our planet. Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots environment movement that urges everyone to spend 60 minutes for the planet’s future. We are grateful that Tata Power is helping spread the message to their customers every year. Together, let us create the Biggest Hour for Earth.”

This year through proactive awareness and engagement with its customers and communities, the company through its distribution network in Mumbai, Delhi and Odisha has contributed to an energy saving of more than 200 MW. The company also organized community engagement activities across different cities to inspire citizens to be conscientious and to “Give Earth an Hour”, which is the theme of Earth Hour 2024. Tata Power DISCOMs have been promoting climate and energy- conscious practices among customers who were made aware of this initiative through digital bills, encouraging them to actively participate in Earth Hour 2024 by switching off lights and non-essential electrical appliances from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, 23rd March 2024. The company also placed collaterals at their Customer Care Centres thereby ensuring they left no stone unturned in creating awareness and increasing participation in Earth Hour 2024.

Other community outreach efforts extended to raising awareness through Tata Power’s initiatives, Club Enerji and Abha Change Agents, creating grassroots community awareness across Delhi, Mumbai, and  activated through Community Change Agents.  

Earth Hour, a global movement born in 2007, symbolises the collective effort to address climate change and promote environmental sustainability. This global initiative not only raises awareness about the importance of reducing energy consumption but also encourages individuals to take tangible actions to protect our planet.
