Mumbai, February 7, 2021: Things2do and Majhi Vasundhara launched Mumbai’s biggest city-wide sustainable clean-up movement, ‘Apni Mumbai Swachh Mumbai’. The initiative aims at bringing the city into the top 10 cleanest cities across the entire nation. Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan is an initiative taken up by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, GOM to bring all the corporate entities (local and global) under one forum willing to work for the cause of sustainable development and climate change. The Mumbai Festival launched by Things2do and Maharashtra Tourism department is proactively working towards a sustainable city clean-up drive by cleaning the localities along with having artwork installations. Over 500 volunteers across Mumbai teamed up together today, for making this activity a huge success. The community-led initiative to clean up the entire city started in the morning across different locations such as Juhu Koliwada Beach, Mithi River (Mahim), Airoli Mangroves (Navi Mumbai), Poisar Slum (Kandivali East), Reti Bunder (Mahim West), Picnic Point (Aarey Colony) and Kharghar Pond (Navi Mumbai).
Shri Aditya Thackeray, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Environment, Maharashtra commented, “Things2do and Majhi Vasundhara joined hands to launch a city-wide clean-up movement under #TheMumbaiFestival with 500+ Mumbaikars participating across Mumbai. So happy to see so many citizens step out on a Sunday to clean our beaches. Now let’s do our bit by not littering.”
On initiating the movement, Amit Tripathi, Managing Director at Things2do said, “It gives us a great feeling of pride and happiness to connect with a huge number of Mumbaikars with an aim towards transforming our city that we truly love. The Mumbai Festival not just intends to give people the best experiences but also bring everyone together and celebrate their love for their city by being more responsible and taking individual accountability. We at Things2do will be organizing the clean-up and beautification drive on a monthly basis to sustain this initiative and achieve the larger objective for the city.”
