Startup Rare Planet Provides Livelihood to 10,000 Artisans

Kolkata, October 28, 2020: Rare Planet – a young startup focused on uplifting rural karigars has included over 5,000 artisans to its network from over 5 States and 10 cities. The brand procures Indian handmade products from these artisans and retails it further through online and offline platforms, thus providing the right value for the products to their karigars. Due to the pandemic when a lot of such artisans were struggling for income, Rare Planet provided them with an opportunity to sustain by helping them keep their business ongoing and experiencing over 120 per cent increase in their regular income.

Rare Planet targets at providing livelihood to over 25,000 artisans by 2022 fiscal end with more States to cover in India. It further plans at tying up with artisans across cities including – Kutch, Jodhpur, Madhubani, Nadia, Saharanpur, Cuttak, Purifor their authentic creations. This will further enable the brand to expand its array of offerings. The brand also plans to widen its reach to customers by tying up with more offline retail outlets across airports in India.

“During the ongoing pandemic, these artisans are amongst the most stuck people in the country. It is known that most of these artisans survive on seasonal sales. Some would make their maximum earning by selling idols during the festive season and sustain on that income for the rest of the year. However, this year the demand was very low, and so has their earnings. During these difficult times, Rare Planet’s support is most relevant than ever. We will work towards creating more opportunities for them by foraying in newer markets and expanding our portfolio,” said Ranodeep Saha – Co-founder and CEO, Rare Planet.

Since the coronavirus outbreak, Rare Planet has been following all the safety measures for the wellbeing of its artisans. The brand provided all the craftspeople with masks and also issued SOP while they work on their artistic products. The startup is determined to widen its footprint and gradually create a difference across the lives of 7 million artisans in the country. Rare Planet recently announced utilising its Rs 3.5 Crore raised in pre-series A in expanding its reach and offerings.
