Tata Power-DDL Engages and Empowers Rural Communities at National Consumer Day Event

New Delhi: On the occasion of National Consumer Day, the Village Customer Group (VCG) of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility company which supplies electricity in North and Northwest Delhi and serves a populace of around nine million, hosted a Village Customer Meet (VCM) in Tigipur village, in outer Delhi. National Consumer Day in India aims to raise awareness about consumer rights. As part of this celebration, Tata Power-DDL highlighted its ongoing commitment to engaging with and appreciating its customers in local communities.

The event witnessed encouraging participation from customers from villages across Narela district, including Bakhtawarpur, Palla, Akbarpur Mazra, Hiranki, Kushak, Hamidpur, Jhingola and Tigipur among others. The officials of Tata Power-DDL utilised the occasion to engage with the community, discussing strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and outlining the discom’s schemes and policies under the strategic direction of Chief Commercial, Kiran Gupta. The event was led by Rahul Kumar, Head of Special Customer Group (SCG), Village Customer Group (VCG), and Customer Counselling Group (CCG), Tata Power-DDL, Manisha Wadhwa, Head of SCG & VCG, Nitin Goel, District Manager Narela, and other senior officials of Tata Power-DDL.

A range of activities were conducted during the event comprising of:

  • Village Customer Meet (VCM), a platform for customers to interact with Commercial & Operations team)
  • Extension of the OPD health check-up camp service to Tigipur village
  • Presence of a DSM product counter
  • Solar workshop sensitising customers on benefits and processes to opt for solar energy
  • Drawing competition for students focused on energy conservation
  • Awareness of positive policies for customers followed by a feedback session.

The event witnessed a very encouraging response from villagers with over 20 solar leads, the participation of 50+ students in a drawing competition, 186 villagers benefitting from a mobile dispensary, and more than 300  LED products bought by customers. Villagers appreciated the idea of creating a VCM platform through which the TPDDL team helped to resolve their queries/issues on the spot.

The forum reinforced Tata Power-DDL’s commitment to customer satisfaction and community engagement by offering a platform for direct interaction, education, and service delivery. It also strengthened the relationship between the organisation and its valued customers in the Narela district.

Tata Power-DDL established the Village Customer Group (VCG) in 2021 to strengthen its engagement with rural communities. The VCG addresses the unique needs of customers in rural and semi-urban areas, focusing on building trust, promoting sustainable energy solutions, supporting CSR activities, and enhancing customer satisfaction through proactive outreach and support.
