India, June 3, 2020: The UNESCO Report, March 2020 stated that COVID-19 crisis has affected the way that 32 crore children access education. This is a very real problem in India. Since our country has been in lockdown for months now, schooling has become virtual – for those who can afford it. However, there are millions of children who do not have the resources to access virtual learning and virtual classrooms, whose education has now been left abandoned.
ConnectFor recognises this to be a very real challenge that is sure to have long term repercussions. To help mitigate the same, the organisation is piloting a phone schooling campaign with Udaan India Foundation (an education-based NGO).
The initial goal is to collect INR 20 Lakh with the hope of reaching 500 children with a smartphone and data pack for three months (one school term). The initial response received was incredibly overwhelming, and donor support has allowed the organisation to reach this goal with three days of the campaign launch. Recognising the potential of this, we have scaled up our initiative, and are now aiming to reach INR 35 Lakh and up to 1000 students.
This story and this issue needs people’s attention – it is also a ray of hope during these difficult times.
