Mumbai: Essar Foundation, the CSR arm of Essar, along with AGC Networks, a global tech company, have come together to support several noble initiatives on CSR within Maharashtra, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh in India.

The companies have joined hands and come forward in support of the differently-abled, be it in the form of education or basic necessities, as well as in support of the malnourished and underprivileged of our society.

Dominic, Dsouza, COO, Essar Foundation, said, “These initiatives are in line with our commitment towards providing an all-inclusive education to students from all walks of life as well as a vision that entails holistic development that is human development centric. We are taking small steps for the rehabilitation of differently-abled children in order to ease their inclusion into society at-large. We are very excited and grateful for this partnership since it has created a gateway to support the development of women and children and to be able to provide them with the necessary nutrition and healthcare, only gives us immense satisfaction and pride.”

Essar Foundation in partnership with AGC Networks have supported the education of 67 differently-abled children at Amar Jyoti School in Delhi and Gwalior. Amar Jyoti School is part of Delhi-based Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust and the first such school providing an inclusionary education for disabled children. The school runs multiple skill development centres which teach students specific skills like tailoring, pottery, painting, etc., keeping in mind the limited opportunities available for differently-abled students. This is done to ensure that students are able to find meaningful employment and are socially and financially secure.

“Over the years, the ESSAR Group has continuously provided support to the patients of All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR). We also collaborated with the hospital to assist the hospital’s efforts to deal with the global COVID pandemic. We hope to continue this association and provide the much needed support and a better living to the disabled,” Mr Dsouza added.

The companies have also teamed up and provided wheelchairs to 27 differently-abled patients undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR) in Mumbai. Each wheelchair is specifically customised so as to provide maximum mobility and comfort to the person using it, thus offering respite to their support system including family members who had to physically carry the patient around all the time.

Dr Anjana, Head Coordinator of the initiative and a doctor at AIIPMR, said, “This gesture on part of AGC Networks and ESSAR Foundation will be a life changing scenario and support to the patients and their family, many of whom have struggle to finance their long and painstaking treatments.”

Additionally, as a part of strengthening their relationship by focusing on societal needs, the two companies have come together to support a Mother and Child Malnutrition project implemented by Shri Ramakrishna Arogya Sansthan, in a tribal belt in Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra, wherein tribal women and children underwent a medical check-up and were provided with necessary vitamins and other medications.

Swami Shrikanthanand, Trustee and President, Shri Ramakrishna Arogya Sansthan, said, “We are grateful to AGC Networks for coming forward through Essar Foundation to support the ‘Mother and Child Malnutrition Project’ which will benefit both Mother and Child in the tribal belt of Trimbakeshwar and adjacent villages. We want to say a big thank you to AGC Networks and Essar Foundation for the support extended that will enable us to provide better nourishment to both, Mother and Child.”
