Bangalore, September 20, 2019: Jindal Aluminium Limited (JAL) has developed a state-of-the-art hostel for women at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to aid women in their journey of building a career in science and Engineering.

Pragun Khaitan, Managing Director, Jindal Aluminium Limited, and Aluru Seelin Kiran Kumar – Former Chairman, ISRO and former Secretary, DOS, GOI- inaugurated this facility. While IISc has a reputation for housing several outstanding women scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs, women comprise only 25 per cent of the students pursuing an education in science. Jindal Aluminium Limited and IISc are working to improve this number by providing quality education and modern in-house infrastructure.

The ‘Dr. Sitaram Jindal Ladies Hostel’, named after the Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Aluminium Limited, is a 20-crore project with a built-up area of 77,380 sq. ft. It has 203 single occupancy rooms self-contained with a table, chair, cot, wardrobe, bookshelf, and rack. Besides a separate mess hall, every hostel floor is designed to surpass safety standards and guidelines. This hostel is going to be operated and maintained by IISc.

Speaking at the inauguration, Pragun Khaitan, Managing Director, Jindal Aluminium Limited said, “We are delighted to be a part of an initiative that helps nurture the careers of bright, young women in the country.  It is important to create a secure positive environment for them to pursue their education and work towards a career of their choice. We hope that this initiative opens the door for more women to take up science and engineering as a career path.”

Since its inception, Jindal Aluminium Limited has believed in fostering community inclusivity and engagement, and this contribution to one of India’s top science institutes is another step in that direction.
